Food Science and Technology Research Institute

Khorasan province is considered as one of the hubs of food industry in Iran. The industry’s wide range of activities on the one hand and the necessity of compliance with the standards and improving the quality of the products on the other, have led the industry owners to consider research as one of the inevitable parts of their management.

In the field of food industry, Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research (ACECR), Khorasan-e Razavi Branch started its activities in 1990 (1369) and obtained the final approval for the Food Industry Research Group in 1994 (1373). In 2002 (1381), by Investigating the comparative advantages of Khorasan-e Razavi province and considering the macro policies of ACECR and also the capabilities of the group, the establishment of a research institute in this field was considered.

By establishing two research groups of the quality and safety of food and food additives and completing the academic staff, the official approval was achieved from the Institute of Food Science and Technology in 2007 and then the name of Food Industry Research Institute was changed to Food Processing Research Group. Also, this institute received the approval of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology in 2017 (1396). In addition to research groups, two physicochemical and microbiological food research laboratories, as well as two research pilots and semi-industrial production including food additives and food extrusion are currently active in this research institute. Furthermore, in the field of all-natural food colorings Golchin Toos Natural Additives Knowledge-Based Company (Afzoone) was established in 2015 (1394), licensed by Science and Technology Vice-Presidency, to commercialize research achievements.
